On August 1, 1988, The Rush Limbaugh Show was nationally syndicated in New York City. Throughout his career, Rush reached millions and millions of listeners, becoming their daily friend on the radio. He was known for his ability to break down complex issues in a relatable way while entertaining with profound intelligence, sharp wit, and satire. Rush was a pioneer, paving the way for many in broadcasting and media. His program reigned as the number one most-listened to show in the country for decades.
Among his many awards and accolades, Rush was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame, the Hall of Famous Missourians, and the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. He also received five Marconi Awards for "Syndicated Radio Personality of the Year."
Although not widely publicized or discussed in the mainstream media, Rush was an extremely generous person, both financially and with his time. He gave to numerous charitable organizations that were close to his heart and to countless individuals in need. Rush strongly supported our United States military, first responders, and their families.
Beyond radio, Rush authored seven #1 New York Times bestselling books, including The Adventures of Rush Revere children's history series. Rush was honored with the Children's Choice Author of the Year Award for the first book in the series, Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims.
In 2020, Rush received America's highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, at President Donald J. Trump's State of the Union Address. Despite being recently diagnosed with a terminal illness and in great physical pain, Rush and his wife, Kathryn, flew to Washington D.C. to sit next to the First Lady of the United States in the Capitol Building at the President's invitation. Surprised and deeply touched by the award, Rush later said it was the most incredible honor of his life.
Rush was always positive and optimistic about the future, believing deeply in fellow Americans. His legacy lives on through the Rush Limbaugh Radio Legacy and the Rush and Kathryn Adams Limbaugh Family Foundation.
